2022 Water Rate Increase

November 15, 2021

Dear Valued Water Customer,

Our water supplier, the Benton Washington Regional Public Water Authority (BWRPWA), is in the process of expanding water treatment plant capacities, finished water pumping capacities and line carrying capacities. These projects are necessary to meet the continued growth of our area here in Northwest Arkansas to keep all our customers in sufficient water to continue to meet growth demands in our service area. These projects are being funded by a bond issue by BWRPWA and, thus, the wholesale water rates being charged to customers of BWRPWA are being increased to cover these very important projects. Also, as you all area aware, costs of our materials, electricity, labor and equipment are steadily rising in this current state of our economy and we must be able to keep up with our rising operating costs to keep you supplied with a safe, potable water supply. Therefore, the Washington Water Authority Board of Directors voted on November 15, 2021, to increase the current water rates to offset the cost of the rate increase imposed by our water supplier and to meet the rising costs of keeping your water utility operating for you. The increase is going to raise the minimum bill for a standard residential water meter to $32.50, which includes the first 1,000 gallons of water. The rate per 1,000 gallons after the minimum will be raised to $9.25 per 1.000 gallons usage on a pro rata basis. The effective date of the increase will be on the water bills mailed at the end of January 2022 and will be due February 10, 2022. An average residential user (4,000 gallons per month) will see an increase of $4.28 per month, plus applicable taxes. The last water rate increase was in August 2016. For over 5 years we have kept water rates flat for our customers with no increase to you while keeping you supplied with a safe, potable water supply.

The new rate schedule will be as follows, not including any applicable taxes or the EPA charge:

First 1,000 Gallons ................................................................ $32.50 (Minimum Bill for 5/8" Meter)

1,001 Gallons and Over......................................................... $9.25 per 1,000 Gallons

The minimum bill for larger meters will be as follows:

3/4" Meter Service ................................................................ $37.50

1" Meter Service.................................................................... $42.50

1-1/2" Meter Service ............................................................. $62.50

2" Meter Service.................................................................... $72.50

3" Meter Service.................................................................... $97.50

Also, please know that as part of a public water system in the State of Arkansas, all new plumbing, alteration, repairs, relocation, replacement, and additions to existing plumbing systems must be installed and inspected in accordance with the Arkansas Plumbing Code 2006 requirements and any additional Washington Water Authority plumbing requirements. The Washington Water Authority is required by the Arkansas Department of Health to enforce these plumbing requirements. The purpose of the plumbing code requirements is to provide minimum standards to safeguard life or limb, health, property and public welfare by regulating and controlling the design, construction, installation, quality of materials, location, operation and maintenance or use of plumbing equipment and systems.

We appreciate having you as a customer of the Washington Water Authority. If you have any questions or need additional information, please feel free to contact a customer service representative at 479-267-2111.
